Wednesday, December 31st, 2008

This is the last post of 2008. I thank you all who commented in the past, I thank you who read my thoughts, and I look forward to many thrilling posts and comments in 2009.

I wish you all only the best for 2009.

Happy new year to you and may all your dreams come true.

Saturday was just marvelous. And a proof of how a few meters above sea level do make a difference.

Sunday we stayed below, I had to finish the bookkeeping of tauer perfumes for 2008, making the books ready for my tax forms that follow later in 2009. Feels good when it is done. Next year, everything will be different….the W.-factor is becoming responsible for the bookkeeping.

And today I am on my way to my office job. Feels good, too…getting away from the kitchen and food everywhere in the house ;-)

Thus, an answer to yesterday’s question in the comments section: I gained about a pound (feels like that at least). How about you?
Greetings from below the fog

Picture: Saturday, at 1500 meters above sea level, hiking up with snow shoes….
below the fog
and finally: above the fog. yes….dreamland.

Background.gifAnd yes, this is day twenty three of our advent calendar. One more days until Christmas. And  again, our winner of yesterday was picked using random.org.

And just as a proof that random means random…..the winner is Tama (like in matadecoco…)! Tama has won a le Maroc pour December 13. Wow.

Congratulations! Please email me your address to perfumer(at)tauerperfumes.com ( as I have already deleted your earlier mail) and I will send that “une rose chyprée” sample, together with a full bottle of l’air du désert marocain. Congratulations to you!

And here comes the confession on yesterday’s question: I did ask properly. The question was not 100% bi uniquely  formulated. I should have asked for “What  estimate of percentage of active genes (not pseudogenes) is used to express Olfactory Receptors, under the assumption that man ’s genome codes for an estimated 22000 genes.” Yes, about 2%. Which is a lot! I am thankful for every receptor that sits up there.

I am sorry for any confusion raised by my question. And here comes the compensation: Just leave a comment and I pick one tomorrow and the winner gets a bottle of choice from my range , together with a sample of the rose chyprée. And now…. enjoy this last day before Christmas.

Background.gifAnd yes, this is day twentytwo of our advent calendar. Two more days until Christmas. And  again, our winner of yesterday was picked using random.org.

And the winner is…Tara (like in mrstararob……)! Congratulations! Please email me your address to perfumer(at)tauerperfumes.com and I will send that “une rose chyprée” sample,  sent from Zurich, together with a full bottle of Incense rosé or Incense extrême. Your choice! Congratulations to you!

The convention that I attended yesterday was the last of seven conventions dispersed over the year, where the senses were discussed. Around 130 people attended, drank coffee, eat bread and cookies, and after a lovely introduction, we -my host and me- started to chat about scents and the sense of smell. The 15 min chat was then followed by music and singing praises, and then the priest talked about what might have happened 2000 years ago and how it must have smellt in the stall…

It was very nice, and I enjoy my chat a lot, talking about all sort of things. For instance the percentage of our genome, devoted to the sense of smell….your guess (if right and if picked tomorrow, a l’air du désert bottle is going to be yours together with a une rose chyprée sample)

a) 2%

b) 1%

c) 0.5 %

I know….this is tricky. Have a lovely day.

Background.gifAnd yes, this is day twentyone of our advent calendar. Three more days and we are there. And  again, our winner of yesterday was picked using random.org.
A
nd the winner is…Ivona (like in …myshark…)! Congratulations! Please email me your address to perfumer(at)tauerperfumes.com and I will see that “une rose chyprée” sample, gets on its way, sent from Zurich, together with a sample set.

Indeed, I will attend a methodist, unconventional convention, with a talk on scents and the sense of smell. Time for the Grey suit, and the shaver. And Incense extrême.

And today, you can win an Incense of your choice, either a bottle of Incense rosé or a bottle of Incense extrême, together with a sample of une rose chyprée. Without tricky questions ;-) Have a lovely Sunday.

Background.gifAnd yes, this is day twenty of our advent calendar. Just a few more days…And  again, our winner of yesterday was picked using random.org.
And the winner is…Kathryn (like in …vmusson)! Congratulations! Please email me your address to perfumer(at)tauerperfumes.com and I will see that “une rose chyprée” sample, gets on its way, sent from Zurich, together with a sample set.

And of course… 1917 was the answer. Amazing. In the middle of one of the worst wars this world has ever seen, one of the most beautiful fragrances was created. Humans are a special breed, creating the most beautiful dreams and producing machines that do nothing else than destroying dreams.

Today I have a tricky question where Google won’t help: Tomorrow will be a busy day because

a) I attend a methodist mass in the morning, where we will chat about the sense of smell
b) I attend a rabbit breeding course in the afternoon
c) I get a liposuction before X-mas to be ready for the Gnocchis

And today’s winner who got the answer right gets a sample discovery set.

Background.gifAnd yes, this is day nineteen of our advent calendar. And  again, our winner of yesterday was picked using random.org.
And the winner is…KathyT(like in ktizz…from Vancouver)! Congratulations! Please email me your address to perfumer(at)tauerperfumes.com and tell me to whom you would like to have a sample discovery set sent. For you,  “une rose chyprée” sample, is on its way, sent from Zurich.

OK, and to yesterday’s question… indeed…Unfortunately, my reasons are neither a thrilling affair nor do I work on a level where I could complain about curtains in the office. Thus… a)

And now, again something perfumery related, somewhat educational…

Chypre, the original fragrance, setting with its bergamot, labdanum, patchouli and oakmoss accord the all time standard, was launched by Coty…

1907

1917

1925

And the winner of today gets a sample set with a rose chypre sample…

Background.gif And yes, this is day eighteen of our advent calendar. And  again, our winner of yesterday was picked using random.org.
And the winner is…Jane (like in Janeellis…from Vancouver)! Congratulations! Please email me your address to perfumer(at)tauerperfumes.com and tell me which bottle you would like to get. Yesterday’s winner gets a full bottle of her choice from my line, and “une rose chyprée” sample sent from Zurich.

OK. Having announced the winner, here is today’s question. A somewhat difficult one… The first fragrance launched was Le maroc pour elle, in January 2005. And I made it for the shop of Pascal in Zurich, as proposed by him after dessert. I had time in 2004 to develop it because I was unemployed back then. I was leaving my job  and was then unemployed (it was about the worst time back then to leave a job) because…

a) I was tired of a stupid boss and just left
b) I had an affair with the boss
c) I did not like the curtain’s colour in my office

Today’s winner gets a special chance: The winner will only a sample of “une rose chypré” sent to him/her , but the winner that I pick using random.org can tell me where I shall ship a sample set. It can be to family, friends, perfume lovers. You name it…

PS: I will not store any of the address you provide me, neither yours nor others. I use them to ship things and then they end up in my mail box’s delete folder.
