Background.gifAnd yes, this is day fourteen of our advent calendar. And again, our winner of yesterday was picked using random.org.
And the winner is… Tama (like in mamatdecoco..) ! Congratulations to you. Please email me your address to perfumer(at)tauerperfumes.com. Yesterday’s winner gets a Le Maroc pour elle and “une rose chyprée” sample home. Thus, Tama, it seems as if wearing Le Maroc pour elle yesterday helped to influence Random.org

And today you can win, because it is a Sunday, a full bottle of l’air du désert marocain, together with a sample of le Maroc pour elle. But you have to answer a question first that is a little bit tricky….Tell me: How many ingredients go into the L’air du désert marocain besides the alcohol as carrier:
A) 27

B) 39
C) 12

And here some pictures of yesterday, preparation phase. The event took place in a cellar that was built aroudn 1600. We had a some 30+ guests and I forgot completely taking pictures. It was like bathing in a sea of rose petals and this with lovely folks.

The recipe for the gnocchis follows tomorrow….have a lovely Sunday!

    The answer is C

My bottle of LDDM is still in the mail! Maybe I’ll have another in the mail soon?

  2. Ben A Says:

My answer is A (I was going to post my reasoning, such as it is, but I’ll leave it up to others to come to their own conclusions)

  3. andy Says:

heheh. Dear Ben A and dear Mitch, greetings to you, a lovely Sunday and let us see whether Ben A or Mitch sets the standard today…

  4. Jean S Says:

I will vote for 27, (a). I’m looking forward to the gnocchi recipe!

  5. Robert Says:

I’m guessing A, because B seems like too many and C seems like too few.

  6. Eileen Says:

    ” B ”

    Thank you

  7. Wayne Says:

Like Jean S I’m looking forward to the gnocchi recipe too. I’ve had gnocchi cravings sinced you mentioned it, Andy! Someone mentioned ‘pumpkin gnocchi’ yesterday which got me thinking… kumera gnocchi! I don’t know if you have kumera in the states or in Europe, it’s a sweet potato from New Zealand. I’m going to try making it tomorrow, thinking of cooking it in the usual way, then finishing it off in the oven with lots of butter, garlic and sage. I’ll keep you posted! :)

Anyway, the important stuff: I think the answer is a) 27. Arrived at via diligent googling, scientific extrapolation, a shovel-ful of guesswork and a soupçon of hope!

I’m hoping my order of LADDM arrives next week. But you can never have too much of a good thing!

  8. Maryla Says:

The answer is C - 12. That would be my dream come true to win a full bottle of L’air du désert marocain…

  9. Mark Says:

    I say A - 27.
I think L’air du désert marocain relies on a small number of high quality ingredients, but 12 is just too low.

  10. Rebecca Says:

Hi, I looked at the notes in L’air du désert marocain and there were 12 listed but that seems too few and I am quite aware that many notes never get listed cos if you exposed all of your secrets we could just make it ourselves so I will have to say A, 27. Geeze, I hope that I am right cos I really want to win a bottle of this!

  11. Laura Says:

    I’m going to guess A - but it is just a guess….

  12. AromaX Says:

Thanks for the pictures, Andy. They are giving a nice impression of sphere by apero - Rose in a basement (ok, it was a cellar) :o) recalls a special feeling of a kind of Victorian Rose or even a Rose Barbare :o) Bathing in a sea of rose petals… it’s so fragrantly romantic…

But there is also a question… And the searching for the answer might take the whole Sunday that is not that lazy anymore :o) But it also brings to the nice surprises like your earlier posts when you are describing the structure of L’Air du Desert Marocain briefly or some of interviews when you describe what made you to start making perfumes… Another chapter of a Tauer book. And still no answer. When searching for facts fails the intuition must take a lead…

    My guess is 27.

  13. Gustav Says:

Yes, my guts tell me it’s A) 27 well-balanced ingredients. This might of course be wrong, but I find that 39 seems like too many… Now I really want to know the answer, and hopefully, if random.org so will, have a bottle of L´air! ;-)

  14. tatchan Says:

I think the answer is C.
    Because 12 is complete number!!

  15. Lenore Says:

    I think 12

  16. Margareta Says:

    Hi, Andy

    I think A. 27 ingredients seem reasonable.

  17. qschoice Says:

I think it’s a) 27 in spite of the minimalistic view of the scent. Then again, there’s a lot going on in the desert….

  18. kathryn Says:

Oooh dear, this is tough because I really really want to win a bottle of this, and I am torn between 12 and 27. But I am going to go with 12, as 27 seems too many to me, though 12 feels a few too few. I would have felt happier with 16 or 20, but 12 it has to be!!

    Kathryn (LDDM!)

  19. Chantal Says:

Oh Wow this one is very hard, I’d go with A because 12 seems so very little. Can’t wait to find out what the answer is though

  20. Annelie Says:

I think B or 39 because it is such an interesting and complex fragrance.

  21. Chris V Says:

I truly hope I get this one right Andy! I would LOVE a bottle of L’air du désert marocain!!! I have spent at least 1/2 hour searching everywhere online for this answer!!

So I’m going to go with A - 27 ingredients.

    (fingers crossed)

  22. Eileen the 2nd Says:

Hmm.. that’s a tough one. It is a straight-forward scent on the surface, but I’m sure there is more going on than is consciously apparent. That is what holds one’s interest..

So, I’ll say A) 27 ingredients. It could be 1027, but whatever it is, keep doing it!

  23. Kristine Says:

I hope I get this right, although I admit that this guess is, well, a pure guess. I vote A, while crossing my fingers :).

  24. Tara Mansfield Says:

Wow I would love a bottle of LDDM. That would be a very nice Christmas surprise for me!

I hope the answer is C!

  25. charles Says:

I was wavering between a and c, but then the anti=spam total was 12 do I hope that the perfume apsaras were whispering C

  26. Fab. Says:

I’m going to go for answer A)

  27. Debby H. Says:

    Hi Andy,
I’m guessing with no scientific basis whatsoever that the answer is A. It is snowy and 4 degrees F here today - perfect day to wear a warming perfume!
    Debby H.

  28. mijitamaggi Says:

    I say B.

    meg

  29. Dusan Says:

Andy, your finest, which is btw in my top 10 favorites, has 27 ingredients? Oh I don’t know, this is just a wild guess, but what I do know is that lately I’ve been jonesing L’Air like mad, so if I (fingers crossed) do win it, I’m certain to be mainlining it for at least the whole of January! :) If not, well, I guess I’ll just have to save up and order a FB…
I can’t wait for tomorrow’s gnocchi recipe, yum yum!
Seems like you had a swell time at the launch, the setting looks great, wish I could have been there…

  30. patricia Says:

    27 :)

  31. Suzanne Says:

I will say 27. It’s also my birth date as well as my grandmother’s & daughter’s–maybe it will bring me luck this time!

  32. karin Says:

Hi Andy! Hmmm…I’m guessing on the low end - 12. I’m wearing it today. Yum. I would love a bottle. Please include me in the draw. Thanks and happy Sunday!

  33. Vladimir Says:

    With confidence - C!

  34. court Says:

This is tough. I’ll say C.

  35. Paco Says:

    Hi Andy,
I understand that there are 12 notes listed…but I think that the right answer is A.

    Have a nice day!

  36. rosenrot Says:

    I’m guessing C! Have a lovely sunday!

  37. Camilla Says:

Amber, balsams and resins, patchouli, a hint of vetiver? and more woods?.
Reported jasmin and rose, a leathery and smokey note?, spices (coriander?, cumin?)… you mentioned lavender previously, and I suppose there is a bit of vanilla too. Some citrusy-green notes for the start? And you might ease me, but I smell eucaliptus!
I am no expert, just a pefume lover, and would go for 39 (how many notes do you need just to conjure the smell of leather, smoke and balsamic notes? Not to mention the rest!!)… but you see, I noticed that you typed “27″ well apart from the other numbers..at least, my browser shows 27 definetly on top. I’ll take it as a hint.
So: A. (even if it’s counter intuitive: if you managed to do “the air” with only 27 notes, I’ll eat my hat!!!)
    Please random.org, please, choose me!!!!

  38. Kayliana Says:

I’m going with C! Can’t wait for the recipe!!

  39. RebieFR Says:

    Hi Andy,
    my answer is A.
I adore this perfume. I want it to be my boyfriend’s new fragrance. He wears Habit Rouge which I like but it’s too famous and I find L’air to be much more mysterious and sophisticated. So another bottle of it would be more than welcome.
    Have a nice sunday.
    Rebecca

  40. Morgan Says:

Dear Andy - been browsing your older posts in the hope of catching a hint. I SO want to get this one correct! 27… 39… 27… 39 - which should I pick? 12 seems… TOO perfect. Too simple. I have a feeling that behind the apparent minimalism there’s a lot more ingenuity hiding.
So I’m going with my gut feeling: A, 27.

  41. Pam Says:

    My guess is A.

  42. Stephan Says:

I’ll take the middle way and guess A 27. Have a nice week.

  43. Jeff Says:

    I go with A :)

  44. zeram1 Says:

    Andy,

What a lovely event” it must have been, and I’m even more jealous for even your country’s basements look fantastic! With 12 “officially” listed ingredients, I will have to guess that it’s actually B.

  45. zeram1 Says:

    Andy,

Sorry, I typed in the wrong response, I meant A) 27

  46. Miriam Says:

OOoooh I would so love to win a whole bottle! It would make my year!!!
    I am torn between A and B….
    Guessing A) 27
because the fragrance strikes me as very clean and structured and maybe that would be harder to acheive with more ingredients? Or perhaps just more impressive a feat if it is B…
    have a great weekend y’all
    -m

  47. ducdauge Says:

    Hi Andy!

I’ll guess A… ingredients are always difficult to tell.
One “note” is not necessarily one ingredient, right?
    ;)
I’ll wait for easier ingredients: your gnocchi recipe!
    (Let me guess: 8?)

  48. Anne Says:

I’ll go with A) 27. There may be 12 notes listed, but you always need to keep a few “secret” ingredients to yourself.

  49. rachael Says:

I’ll guess 27, with very little confidence. It is a wonderful scent, seamless and evocative. Crossing my fingers :)

  50. Silvia Says:

Hi and happy 3rd Advent, everybody!!!
I’m going to take “die goldene Mitte” and say it’s A! (I would be soooo happy to win today, because I actually forgot to order my sample of L’Air..UNFORGIVABLE!!Don’t know how that happened!)
I just took a brake from decorating the Christmas tree with my mother…it’s going to be gold and red this year! Don’t know why..but this year I’m really getting into a X-mas mood..might be the sweets we’re eating, might be the really bad weather out there (real bad for northern Spain I mean)..but, yes..I’m really excited about the idea of buying presents and food and all that fuss!!
By the way..that cellar looks greaaaaaat!!!Would have loved to be there too!

Greetings to all you out there, all around the globe!

  51. tussah Says:

I’m going to say A. L’air du desert marocain is such an amazing scent. Love, love, love.

  52. Marijeanne Says:

    Dear Andy,

If wearing Le Maroc pour elle was a factor in Tama’s being today’s winner then of course I am wearing L’air du desert today ! Because I believe it can take many ingredients to perfect the notes, and you ,yourself, have said that of course you can’t reveal your secret formula in it’s entirety. I surmise B) 39 !

    xxoo

  53. Violet Says:

    I’ll say A!
    Hope everything went smashingly!

  54. elve Says:

    I’ll say B :)

  55. Tama Says:

Like Marijeanne maybe I should push my luck and wear l’Air today. No, don’t want to be greedy! Well, I want to be greedy, just not publicly…
    I guess 27.

  56. Aparatchick Says:

Wow, this is a tough one. I keep going back and forth between 12 and 27.

    I’ll pick A -27.

Love the picture of the cellar!

  57. andy Says:

    Dear Tama
guess what… I just pack your envelop. There is nothing wrong with wanting l’air after le Maroc…
good luck to you and have a lovely evening

  58. Jamie Says:

12 or 27? I say 27 or “A”. I love this fragrance so very much. Hope I am right!

    jamie

  59. Jean Poole Says:

    I’m guessing A) 27

“Sometimes, when I drive across the desert in the middle of the night, with no other cars around, I start imagining: What if there were no civilization out there? No cities, no factories, no people? And then I think: No people or factories? Then who made this car? And this highway? And I get so confused I have to stick my head out the window into the driving rain—unless there’s lightning, because I could get struck on the head by a bolt.”
    ~ Jack Handy quotes

  60. Matt S Says:

    I guess A.

  61. Natalie Says:

On your blog you once listed 17 ingredients for L’Air, but you noted that you wouldn’t list them all — had to keep a few aces up your sleeve! That at least rules out “C,” so I’m going to guess “A” and hope that the little elves inside random.org take a shine to me today…

  62. Jen DF Says:

I’m going to say C (12) because less is more. Let’s hope I’m right!

  63. hotlanta linda Says:

I will guess `a`- in the middle, sounds like not too much or little. a scent mindful of the desert will help chase the winter bluster awaay - faaarrrr away! The wonderful food that Andy prepares is a huge help to the cause, as well!!!

  64. Kay S. Says:

Let’s see, 12 listed, but listed is rarely the full story. So I’m guessing a) 27.

  65. EnKei Says:

    I guess A) 27

  66. Geena Says:

This is a wild guess, but I think it might be 39.

  67. Johnny Says:

    i guess b)!

  68. Jeudi Says:

Your event looks lovely, I wish I was near.

I’m going to guess 27 today based on most of the posters logic. 12 seems too few, and 39 seems too many. I would LOVE a bottle of L’air so much.

  69. Tara Says:

I’m guessing A. And I am looking forward to the gnocchi recipe!

  70. ScentScelf Says:

The website listed ingredients are only “includes,” so there are more…perfumery can be tricky, and what comes out can be deceivingly “less” than the sum of the ingredients…either 27 or 39…

Very cool space in the photographs, btw. I can imagine it full of the scent of roses, and people happily sniffing…

My guess: B) 39. No, A) 27. (The moon is waning, and so is my brain…)

  71. Ivona Says:

My guess is 12 ingredients… hope I’m right, would love to have that bottle…

  72. Lauren WB Vermette Says:

Given that your goal is to create exceptional fragrances from high quality ingredients, I would go with answer (C): 12; my theory being that if you have the finest materials, then very few would be required to create a sophisiticated scent. *winks, beams*
Congratulations on Une Rose Chypree’s introduction!!! Here’s hoping it was well received, though I have no doubt it wouldn’t be!!! :-D
    Until tomorrow~

  73. Musette Says:

I’m going with c) 12 because it’s such a lovely violet-blue color, the color of the desert at dusk.

  74. Gaz Says:

Well that’s just a lovely setting in the cellar. :)

  75. Dana Says:

This is tough, but my answer is C (with fingers crossed)!

  76. surreality Says:

    I’ll have to guess 27.

  77. Jane Huang Says:

Hmm, everyone’s saying A, but I’ll go with B to buck the trend. It can’t possibly be C, since Luckyscent lists 13 notes! God I hope I win…

  78. Kelley Vandiver Says:

I am going to guess C, just because I want to play!!!

  79. Adam Says:

    I really don’t know. Let’s say A.

  80. Carlos Says:

    I’m going to say B.

  81. Carlos Says:

Oh no! I meant to say A. oh well. :-(

  82. noyna Says:

    A?

  83. Tatiana Says:

    My guess will be 27:)

  84. Ian Says:

    Hi Andy,

You do say that it’s a tricky question, so even though the ingredients on my samples are listed as: C)12, I think that there are more like maybe A)27? I do hope to win as my supply is going much too quickly !

  85. supermarky Says:

again I won’t play for this one as I have it but. . . .

very curious about the gnochhi I must say…
