plans
Still early in 2009 it is time to go forth and back and think about stuff to get done in 2009. This is the nice part, because it does not really involve any serious resource planning yet. I consider it a brainstorming on a high level. But to do so I need free sight and fresh air and a clean head: therefore plan number 1 to spend a day or two in the mountains soon. Today is a day with enough meetings for two days. Tomorrow is a boxing and shipping day in Zurich. A big fat parcel wants to be shipped. And then we will see what the sun says.
Talking sun: I am planning for Italy in March or May; Rome and Milano in spring sounds like a perfect plan to me.
Then I am planning to work on a dark patchouli water, a follow up of a theme that I played with something like 4 years (or 5?) ago. One of the dominating notes in the back: Patchouli….and in one of the next posts I have to talk about it again from an ethymological point of view.
And answering AromaX’ (hugs to you!) question of yesterday: Yes, I want to continue working on a clean, unisex rose, but I have the impression of moving in (tight) circles. But there is hope: I got a vey inspiring sample from Iran, a rose oil that is out of this world.
And then I am thinking about how I can do the next step with a few finished fragrances such as the rose chyprée, without completely loosing control and stretching my resources too much. But here we entere resource planning territory and that’s not exactly where I want to be right now. I prefer to dream a few days more …
And yes, I forgot… I want a shop in Japan for my fragrances.

Hugging you back, Andy
It’s true - you might need some fresh air to cool your head, so your heart can freely speak about your plans for 2009 :o)
Patchouli… for me Patchouli (L’Artisan) was the first niche fragrance I ever smelled - it made me astonished by its difference from the “normal” fragrances. Patchouli was also the first blend I made myself - with ylang-ylang and orange - a classic beauty. As sweet and attractive as deep, dark and decaying, pathouli has many faces depending on company. So, what are you making of it?
Andy, when you start to walk in circles an old known method helps - brainstorming. Just ask as many people as you want about the problem and don’t deny even the most impossible suggestions. You’ll see the new possibilities…
And the problem of new fragrances versus stretching resources. I don’t know if I get it right, but “limited” sets with smaller amounts like 3×10 ml or 5×10 ml (or 15 ml) might still be an option. You’ll need to make less of each fragrance than usual and making of a set would ask almost as much work as packing of a single perfume (well, a little bit more).
But there is something to do first - the mountains are waiting!

Dreamimg, or watching the dream come to pass, is such a blessing, either way! Far too many have forgotten how.

I love patchouli and wore it for years when it was popular and unfortunately associated with dirty armpits and pot smoke. I still love it. Long ago I made myself a mixture that I recently re-found and just tried on. It is patchouli, vanilla (I thought I was so outre!), and an assortment of spicy flowers - carnation, lilac and hyacinth. Even after all these years it is rather interesting - I think I was going for something like Shalimar. We’re talking probably 30 years ago, way before I knew anything (I still don’t know much).
Your patchouli scent idea sounds wonderful - Water of Darkness, indeed. I am looking forward to seeing what you do this year, for sure. Italy, sigh….

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!So nice photos I saw there! All that great, white, pure snow! It’s been a while since I’ve seen something like that..let’s say 15 years (when I still lived in Germany, hehe!) Although..here in Spain…if the weather continues this way…maybe it’ll be all snowy here this weekend!
Patchouli and I are friends only sometimes…but I would love to smell how you make it smell! Is there any more infos on “the company” as Aroma X calls it? :)
What am I reading up there? Possibility of Andy making mini-sets of his perfumes? That would be great! 15 ml bottles would be a nice idea and a good way of solving buyers problems of deciding which frag to buy…(get them all!!)…
Well…greetings from cold-cold Spain!!!
