of leather and other distractions
I sneaked off my mail box yesterday evening to finally mix part I of the clean (soapy) eau de rose thing. Omitting the chamomile and thyme completely. The plan: Move on from there, which translates into sleep over it and learn to life with the pain. Thus, there is a bottle, almost filled (25 ml) of a soapy soup that waits for a few final drops of whatever.
“SOAP!” , the W.-factor said before going to bed, and I got so tired of working in clean area that I reached for knize ten, a pure, ***** (5 stars at least) delight, leading over to thrilling dreams of armies, festive banquets, and a chemical lab that was all mysterious and overgrown by green wet plants.
Yes. Green.
So I imagined this morning that is a Freud’s (or Jung…) sign: I need to add a hint of a leathery army note (chinoleins), gourmet note (berries), and a touch more green like ivy leaves or galbanum.
Another line of thought. Maybe it is time to let this one sit for a while and start working in dirty zones again, you know: woods and leathers. …to be followed.

I wish I had some dreams like that! I mostly dream nonsense! How about mixing in some lavender? Not the fresh flowery notes, but the more greeny herbaceous ones..how would that be? (ok, my love for lavender might blind me..hehehe!) The leather is a great idea!! But I do have to say that I do love me a good soapy smell…i’d love to smell it!

Sorry for missing posts yesterday - too much disruption! The ivy sounds good when the cami & thyme are gone - the gothic novel is coming to mind w/ this new formula. Yes, it can be good to belay the book and go to another zone, if thsi is where your instincts are leading! We all need Spring, vs. getting bitten by Old Man Winter`s backlashes - the Atl has slipped into winter`s grip again for 10 days; hope the plantlife`s buds will hang in there!! Spring needs to get tough for a second, and show winter the door, for all of us. Silvia might encourage Spring to make her rounds, but I`ll bet Spring is quite happy in Spain! (plead graciously, anyhow!!)

My dearest Andy
fragrances should make us dream and tell us stories -remember slow dancing in a buring room for Vetiver Dance and the death of indian civilization The US for Lonestar.
as far as dirty fragrances… I am dreaming of a fragrance that makes me feel beautiful and confident even during these difficult socio-economic times. I am looking for light and effervesence , perhaps gabriel must spread his wings again and shine on us mortals . Love michelyhn

Sending you all spring vibrations from Spain! heheh! Yup, most narcissus are out, the crocus, the old primroses…yes, life’s starting again! But it’s darn cold out there anyway!
This week I am soooo happy..I just had to share it with you..because I know you will understand…I found another fragrance freak in my “real life”! A wonderful woman who has a street/stray-cat protection association, for which I collaborate sometimes..last week-I don’t know how- we started chatting about things…and suddenly we discovered our mutual love for perfume…I think the word that triggered everything was “Serge Lutens”…it’s just soooooo wonderful to have someone to talk with, to smell things together, to split bottles…wow.. :)

Dear Marianne
funny that you mention honey. I had the bottle with the bees wax in my hands yesterday but it did not feel right :-)
Dear Silvia
Thank you and congratulations: for having found a body in arms ;-) And I am so jealous that spring is so near there where you live!
Dear Michelyn
thank you for your visit and for sharing. I appreciate a lot and I agree so much: It is difficult times these days and not only economics is changing, but also social changes are ahead. The economic crisis cuts right into families and communities. And this is so worrying on one hand and so familiar on the other.
Dear Hotlanta Linda
Fragrant greetings and yes…let the young fine elegant spring lady carry Mr. old grey winter out!

I also love Knize Ten, though it is difficult to find here in the USA … I found a bottle through Colonial Drug in Cambridge Massachusetts. They specialize in hard to find fragrances. I love it, but I find some people choke when they smell the castoreum … it is a potent brew! Here’s the address for Colonial Drug for those in the USA:

Good evening to you, Vasily
thank you for sharing the link to knize ten in the US. and I can imagine that some people have a hard time getting along with mid twenties fragrance story lines. Indeed: A lot, lot, lot of wild animals and tars coming our way there.

TO Vasily - thank you for the Colonial link! The prose of the home page is worth a few grins!! They show Maja - sigh - bet it`s degraded, but one can order to see… Many thanks to Andy for fighting the good fight when it comes to quality!! Why are these `professional` fragrance companys so scared to stand up for the product that they shrug and then don`t care? Courage and compassion are scarce beyond belief, I guess…

Well, Andy - clean and soap is a powerful association :o) But leather and rose is a wonderful combination. I’ve got Safraleine (hmmm wonderful soft leather) and Undecavertol (I smell some green and berries) and do really enjoy those materials. You know, my latest problem with rose was to get rid of citronella hint from rose alcohols. The leather note makes a wonderful contrast. So, your idea of dressing the clean rose in a kinky outfit sounds really interesting.
Knzie Ten - finally I’ve bought it on your advice - wonderful leather. An interesting idea to put it on tonight and see what dreams it awakes :o)

I actually first tried Knize Ten because Andy had mentioned it as one of ten must-try fragrances in an interview a few years ago. I ordered a sample…and I really didn’t “get” it, even after two or three tries. Months later I put it on again and completely fell for it. So I bought a bottle from the aformentioned Colonial Drug. Now it’s my single favorite perfume. A real masterpiece…and a lesson in the value of giving a fragrance a second, third, or fourth try!

Dear BenA
Thank you for your comment! It makes you wonder what it is… but it happens to me too. Suddenly, I discover (or think I discover) a new line in a scent, especially in the good old classics, that wasn’t there before and that makes me love it even more!

Dear AromaX
Be careful… it is a potent potion for over night ;-)
