now that we have the 50 discovery sets

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

I started thinking about a few other items that we need to prepare for the Pitti Frangrance exhibition in Florence. A print product like a leaflet, complementing teasers, discovery sets, testers and standard boxed perfumes.

Thus, I walk now through cities, look out of the train, read the newspaper with “leaflet” in my mind. As time goes by faster these days, my stretch goal is to have this baby finished in English in 2-3 weeks, get it translated and printed in August. This leaves us with a comfortable security margin of falling asleep, getting sick or finding out about something I forgot….

I love this phase. It is like early in the morning, when the city is still asleep. The air is fresh and clean and with the first coffein meandering  through the brain the ideas tumble, forth and back, unstructured, open still.
As I have no leaflet for myself anyhow: Maybe I will use this later in an English version; and now: Off we go…

Nothing to do with leaflets, and missing the Mozarella…. but is shows the importance of colors, light, and a little bit of texture.

desert skunk

Monday, June 29th, 2009

Unfortunately, I have not enough time to continuously and systematically follow the many (threats edited, see comments section…) threads on perfume boards like in Basenotes or Makeupalley or…(enter your favorite board here).

But from time to time, I squeeze out a minute or two, usually when tired, like after sticking labels on bottles and bottles in boxes and labels on boxes and ribbons around boxes or making samples.

Yesterday, I was tired and found a funny (threat edited ) thread . It is about l’air du désert marocain and how many spritzes and desert skunks on basenotes.
http://community.basenotes.net/showthread.php?t=230089 watch out for comment number 12 and 13.

Now, having mentioned this treat and (threat edited ) thread of yesterday: I think I will add another little night shift today (actually looking forward to). I would love to make one step forward with the discovery sets that I prepare for the Pitti Frangranze exhibition in September. We will make some 50 boxes, for retailers and VIP guests.

These labels, by the way, are solvent resistant and extra tough. They should resist to perfume spritzes…

I wish you already now a sunny, happy weekend!

You remember me talking about a special interview? Here it is, on Fragrantica. You can directly get to the interview following the link.

I invite you to comment not here, but rather there….Please do not be too hard with the W.-factor. He is not used to be  in the media :-)
My thanks go to those who made it possible: Fragrantica and Michelyn Camen with her witty and wise questions. THANK YOU!
Enjoy!

By the way: It still looks the same. More pictures you will find in the interview.

Innovate not imitate

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

Here’s an interesting post to read on imitation and differentiation. You find it on my preferred blog on logos design: David Airey’s .
And: Must watch is the youtube video in his blog. Take your time. It is eye opening.

The picture below is a  warm up of a picture I made once to illustrate the difference between original and copy. In perfumery, there is a lot of imitation, too. With the amazing consequences that folks like Michelyn (follow Michelyn on twitter), Ulrich Lang,  and many more start thinking about new name for niche. Because niche concepts are is so copied these days.

But then, as Zoran Knezevic twittered this morning (referring to Aon):  “He who follows another is always behind”. (follow Zoran on twitter)

And will run now, boxing perfumes, and running even faster to stay ahead…. enjoy your day!

in preparation

…for my four year blogging anniversary. Further down you see the flyer front that I will use to prepare the samples of Orange Star (aka Mandarines ambrée). I will give a certain number of these samples in a draw that I will announce later in July, when the birthday is nearer.

The scent… some of you know by reading this blog:
Rich citrus (mandarins, Clementine), juicy lemon grass, crisp orange flower, all on a vibrant ambergris chord with hints of tonka beans, and patchouli.
No need to apply or join now, as the anniversary is going to be in July…..

balancing cars in cellars

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

This post is going to be short:
Yesterday was ultra busy. We are still trying to find the missing parcel in Eastern EU. And I spent my night with mails, not answering the “free sample please” mails.
And we are still missing one important ingredient to produce more Incense rosé. But we still got some bottles left. In the mean time, in the course of 2009, I increased stock of all ingredients that I need to produce my fragrances. What was a car in my cellar is now two; no cadillac, though. You see: growing numbers of bottles getting out means that I need growing numbers in stock. Of everything. And as I do not know what’s going to happen in the next months, this is somewhat tricky. How much rose absolute should I buy? If I get too much, it does not mean that the money is waisted. We will use it next year. But it blocks funds to invest into experiments, new fragrances, you name it.

Thus, balance is key here.

To get an idea where we are, the nice W.-factor with his flavor for numbers and me looked into tables yesterday. And like shopping in a supermarket we ended up in different aisles. Bookkeeping got more professional this year, and I can see now how much I have spent for different things and where the money comes from.

Wow.

Firence

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

That was a busy weekend, with putting more air du désert into boxes, Incense extrême into bottles and boxes and finally, wrapping the Italian version of the rose chyprée paper around the rose chyprée bottle card board boxes. Thisis part of what makes this packing quite versatile. It allows me to comply with the Italy specific labelling demands. A part of what is happening these days is preparatory work for Pitti, the fragrance exhibition in Florence, scheduled for mid September.

And yes, it is official now: I will participate, at the Pitti Fragranze Exhibition. Profumimport, my partner in Italy, has reserved a boot and I will be there at least for a day, showing myself and my work. This IS exciting.
Ah, and yes, we made samples and teasers until we got tired of doing so (3 fragrances, 300 samples, 400 teasers).

And yes, soon, I will have a hint more time for simple experiments again. Like épices and orange flowers. And with even a hint more time, we will think a little bit on inflation, depths and bubbles.

the problem with white boxes

Friday, June 19th, 2009

The problem with white boxes and my inability to take adequate pictures of white things: My boxed fragrances are hard to show in a decent way. I think, one day, when I have a touch more time, I would like to arrange them on a different background. Like green grass, or black velvet.

But I needed a picture today, for an interview that I sent off, and hence I tried again to come up with a picture where the flyers on the packages are not reflecting the light too much and where the background is somewhat neutral.  Well, well….

Next: Lots of samples makeing, and boxing and I need to fiddle around with some website pages. Ah, and yes: I need to prepare my fourth year blogging birthday anniversary. 4 candles for this blog’s birthday cake in a few weeks. And I think I will do a little drawing for readers and friends. I keep you posted on this line.

But first: Sending this interview off; I got many questions in this interview for a first time. This one IS special…

hiking

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

I took a day off for a mountain hike, to be compensated on Sunday, when the weather will be wet and cool.

The hike was supposed to bring us on 1600 meters and through fields of orchids blooming.

Now, I am tired, and hungry….

Enjoy the pictures and see you again tomorrow, with boxes and stuff ;-)
