Day 21 of the advent calendar

===And the winner is===
Nicolibba! Congratulations to you, and thank you for letting me know your address.
And thank you to all for the hints on what kind of orchid it might be. I appreciate a lot!
======
This is day 21 of the advent calendar.
And today is quite busy with pouring some bottles and labeling and putting them into boxes. I need to prepare for after Christmas. Ironically, in the past years, January was always very, very active. Probably because some perfume lovers did not get what they wished and then they buy their perfumes themselves.
I have not many wishes, but unfortunately, the older I get the more expensive my wishes tend to get, too. I think, for next year I wish myself from myself a little bit of mimosa absolute. This is a green, honey like light flower that might work wonderful with a gentle eau de toilette for him. Or as starting point for a flowery, light aldehydic scent. Or a rich flower scent with lots and lots of salicylates (a group of synthetics that pump up every flower to a perfume quality super flower). I happen to have an aldehydic orchid at home that is nice enough to bloom more or less every year in winter time. Right now, it does it again: its scent is weak, though and is only present in the morning, somewhat stronger if freshly watered, but it is amazing how aldehydic it is. I’ll bet: It is 50% C12 aldehyd.
The picture of Ms aldehyde you find below.
Today, it is a sample set again that you might win. Just leave a comment, with your wishes from yourselves if you want, and I will pick the winner with random.org.
Thank you for visiting the advent calendar.
Photo: An orchid, I do not exactly know what type, might be a miltonia breed?

You have a way of making everything sound delicious (in an olfactory way), and the mimosa sounds beautiful. I hope you get some under the tree!
December 21st, 2009 at 8:37 am
Hi Andy, mimosa is a wonderful choice for the incoming year. I wish much succes to you with the new scent creation.
December 21st, 2009 at 8:38 am
Andy, I wish you continued success and much satisfaction in whatever you undertake.
December 21st, 2009 at 8:40 am
Orchids are quite beautiful. They don’t last long though. Sadly enough.
December 21st, 2009 at 8:44 am
Mimosa or absolue cassie are 2 of my favorite raw materials. Sounds like a good idea…
I wish for more peace and more health in this crazy world.
Have a great day.

Orchids are such delicate, ephemeral things and their scent matches them perfectly. At the moment my small garden is fully of blooming buddleias, gardenias and heliotrope and the perfume is wonderful. I really can’t see the point of planting something that doesn’t have a perfume! I’ve always been fascinated by the smell of flowers and clearly remember from a very young age the smell of violets, freesias and waterlilies from my grandmother’s garden in Brisbane. They remain my favourite flowers yet they’re so difficult to render into perfumes. Violet is so expensive and rare, so we have to resort to ionone and other synthetics. Although I love the smell best of all, it’s difficult for me to wear, for some reason. Freesias are just impossible. I’ve never encountered a ‘freesia fragrance’ that smells remotely like the real thing. And then there’s waterlilies: I know of only one fragrance that achieves that elusive beauty: a very well-known (some would say “common”) men’s edt from a japanese designer… I wonder who that is?
Andy, have a wonderful fragrant day!
December 21st, 2009 at 9:10 am
I am looking forward for your take on mimosa. So far I have tried Czech & Speaks mimosa with rather mixed results.
December 21st, 2009 at 9:11 am
Good morning!
That sure looks like a Miltonia, Andy!Would be great to be able to capture that scent..
I love the smell of Freesias too..and Heliotrope ..but I think I wouldn’t want to wear those scents..just too sweet. But I love to smell them in the garden. I can’t wait for spring to come..it’s the nicest time in my garden..there’s really an overload of narcissus, freesias and hycinths..absolutely gorgeous!
Have a great day out there!
December 21st, 2009 at 9:17 am
I am wishing for a peaceful but interesting 2010, and the equanimity to accept what comes regardless of my wishes. And this I wish for you as well.
December 21st, 2009 at 9:18 am
Lovely orchid! I’ve been busy shoveling snow this morning - it finally arrived, so we are all set for Christmas now. Have a wonderful day!
December 21st, 2009 at 9:19 am
I’m not a flowery person but I like delicate scent of fresias and violets. Also, in my garden grow two beautiful roses that smell like no other roses - beautiful, delicate, elegant and… not like roses at all. I wish someone soemday would capture rhose scents in a bottle….
Have a nice day, Andy!
December 21st, 2009 at 9:19 am
I wish u all the best for this holiday.
December 21st, 2009 at 9:25 am
I’m wishing for a white Christmas and currently it looks as if my wish will be fulfilled. I also wish for health and happiness. The other things I can buy myself…
December 21st, 2009 at 9:31 am
Happy Holidays! I’m getting into the spirit, thanks to you!
December 21st, 2009 at 9:41 am
Am I the only one who hears “mimosa” and first thinks “ummmm….brunch cocktail”? Lol. Mostly I’m wishing for a quiet and drama free holiday, which seems to be coming true.
December 21st, 2009 at 9:53 am
Good morning everybody. Enjoy the wonderful snowy landscape outside. Tomorrow the white dream may be vanished …
December 21st, 2009 at 10:02 am
thanks again for teaching…very easy to focus..hope u get done with the packing
December 21st, 2009 at 10:16 am
a perfume wish? a “calamity jane’s memories” (= feminine leather). Lonestar is wonderful but hard to wear for a women.
Happiness to everyone. Andy’s first!
December 21st, 2009 at 10:19 am
Andy, I’m wishing for a great New Year of peace all over this World of ours.
December 21st, 2009 at 10:23 am
I love mimosa, for nostalgic reasons. In Chinese, the mimosa literally translates to “shy grass” because the leaves fold up at the slightest touch. My dad used to call me his little mimosa because I was such a shy child =P but I never realized that the flowers have a scent! I’ll have to wait for the ones in my mom’s garden to bloom and have a sniff myself.
December 21st, 2009 at 10:30 am
Hi Andy. Have a great day. I hope to win one of these amazing gifts soon!
December 21st, 2009 at 10:30 am
My fragrance wish for next year is to discover the perfect warm, green scent. And sample more roses, too.
December 21st, 2009 at 10:37 am
Strange I never seem to get any fragrance from orchids, perhaps I’ve only sniffed the cultivated ornamental breeds…?
December 21st, 2009 at 10:52 am
An orchid is a nice flower. My mother loved it. My mother died last year but this flower reminds me of my mother.
I wish you a good, happy and healthy new year.
December 21st, 2009 at 11:04 am
I also love mimosa absolute. I buy myself a very small bottle occasionally. I love to use it in the springtime………………..which will be with us very soon. I would love a teaser set to experience all your fragrances. I know that I will respect (& hopefully) love them all.
Ellie
December 21st, 2009 at 11:17 am
HI Andy, it would be wonderful if you could create an orchid fragrance as orchids are something you love and really seem to recognize the nuances of the way they smell. For the multitude of orchids here, I really need to pay more attention to the smell as most don’t appear to have any, but I know I am probably wrong about that. And Silvia, the flowers in your spring garden are the ones that I adore: hyacinths, narcissus, daffodil, lilac, freezia…and it’s so true there really is not a true freezia out there…oh and Wayne, I also agree about violets–it wasn’t until recently that I really smelled my first violet and wow, they are amazing!
December 21st, 2009 at 11:18 am
Actually I can’t imagine mimosa in anything “for him” but Andy - you are the Master :-) so I believe you can do it! Seeeya!
December 21st, 2009 at 11:30 am
Mimosa sounds beautiful.
A perfume wish? I wish EU/IFRA regulations stopped killing my fav fragrances. (And some pine and incense - perhaps CdG Zagorsk - under the tree would be nice).
The orchid looks like Burrageara Nelly Isler, a hybrid between three or four genera, Miltonia included.
Happy and peaceful holiday to everyone.
December 21st, 2009 at 11:43 am
Hi Jen!
Well, I’ll send you a big photo of my garden in spring time, you’ll just have to imagine the scent! But you down there in the Tropics surely have flowers all year long! Lucky you!
Oh,,yes lilacs…my grandma always had lots of them in the garden..
December 21st, 2009 at 11:47 am
Only four more sleeps!
Merry Christmas everyone!
December 21st, 2009 at 11:54 am
Good Morning Andy,
My son Ian grows orchids, he has a Cataleya that people stop and take pictures of because everyone says they’ve never seen one with so many blooms. Next time it blooms, I’ll send you a picture, it’s absolutely stunning! Where he got such a “Green Thumb” from is a mystery, there’s never been anthing he couldn’t grow and make thrive. A couple of my favorite fragrances contain orchid, and I get so many compliments on them, how I would like to smell your version of the orchid !
xxxooo
December 21st, 2009 at 12:06 pm
I don’t think I’ve ever smelled an orchid. It looks pretty, though.
December 21st, 2009 at 12:13 pm
Andy’s excellent photo, and I love aldehydic!
December 21st, 2009 at 12:15 pm
Have a happy holidays, Andy!
December 21st, 2009 at 12:19 pm
Andy, your orchid is a beautoful Burrageara Nelly Isler…a complex hybrid beween Miltonia, Odontoglossum and Oncidium.
One of the mos outstanding fragrant orchids I have is Brassavola Little Stars….Night scented flowers resembling intense jasmin, with the indolic character boosted to an extrem.
cheers!
Pablo
December 21st, 2009 at 12:37 pm
Dear Andy, I wish you as much mimosa absolute as you can handle. Best regards from snowy Warsaw! :*
December 21st, 2009 at 12:40 pm
All I want for Christmas is a sample set of yours. :) and maybe some pie.
December 21st, 2009 at 12:43 pm
Just a couple days ago while wrapping the presents I realized how much I enjoy giving presents - much more than receiving them ;) I wish for Xmas some peace and quiet. Have a nice day!
December 21st, 2009 at 12:44 pm
Wish your mimosa dreams come true.
Last weekend I’ve been to the gardenstore to buy a Xmas tree. And I have to think of you when I saw orchids there (remembering simple facts on basic orchid care you told :o). So, I bought one hoping it would be as simple as you told. And otherwise - I know whom to blame :o) The one I bought doesn’t smell, but inspired by your Ms. Aldehyde I think my next orchid might be the smelling one.
December 21st, 2009 at 12:48 pm
I like that photo
December 21st, 2009 at 1:14 pm
Mimosa absolute sounds marvelous! What I wish for: a little more breathing room. Thank you Andy!
December 21st, 2009 at 1:20 pm
Wishes? For more time, of course…….
December 21st, 2009 at 1:21 pm
My grandmother died last week; I wish Christmas peace and love for my mother and my uncles, who are really grieving.
No orchids in our house, but a truly stunning scarlet amaryllis that some of my students gave me as Christmas present that I am really enjoying.
December 21st, 2009 at 1:26 pm
Hi Andy,
I love Daphne, I never see that as a note in perfume
December 21st, 2009 at 1:26 pm
I’m always amazed at your intimate relationship with smells, Andy, and your ability to identify what makes them work. That orchid looks lovely.
I’m off to my sister’s house tomorrow to spend Christmas with family, and my wish is just that everything there will go well.
December 21st, 2009 at 1:30 pm
To all of you: I wish you a merry Christmas and all the best for the new year! I hope Andy and the other great perfumers out there will make it a great one fragrance wise!
December 21st, 2009 at 1:34 pm
I’m thinking of spring already. Joyous solstice!
December 21st, 2009 at 1:43 pm
It’s almost Christmas, folks !!!
December 21st, 2009 at 1:44 pm
This seems like another treat to smell. I hope 2010 will bring us another couple of great and timeless fragrances!
December 21st, 2009 at 1:50 pm
Good morning, Andy! I would love to see what you would do with mimosa…here’s hoping you get your wish!
December 21st, 2009 at 1:50 pm
heard orchid is hard to make them bloom every year? great they smile for you ! can see the dew on the petal , vivid red in cold air. wishes… wish you, us to be happy the rest of this year and new year 2010!
December 21st, 2009 at 1:59 pm
Good Morning Andy– One of my favorite scent memories is driving home from work late at night on the back roads in spring. With the windows down, I would smell the most wonderful sweet, creamy, honey scent–wild honeysuckle. I called it the “warm June smell” and it was simply fantastic. If you could bottle it, I would buy you out !!!
Happy holidays to all as the big day draws near. xoxo JE
December 21st, 2009 at 2:07 pm
I love the interplay between synthetics and naturals :)
December 21st, 2009 at 2:20 pm
I wish my husband would find a job in 2010. We are not suffering as so many are, but he would be happier. Otherwise, thanks for brightening my days, Andy!
December 21st, 2009 at 2:27 pm
Merry Christmas.. I hope I’ll win this marvellous gift… thanks for this advent gift…
December 21st, 2009 at 2:31 pm
Good Morning Andy, I am wishing this world peace, and thank you for your contribution of beauty to our world.
December 21st, 2009 at 2:32 pm
I love mimosa too…
December 21st, 2009 at 2:47 pm
Burrageara ‘Nelly Isler’ indeed, I think they used to be called Cambrias too.
There is no such thing as “orchid” scent though, they smell of everything from coconut & vanilla sugar to horses & rotting meat! Many are completely scentless. I think my favourites are the night scented ones that have a heady, rich “white flower” scent.
I wish for a really big greenhouse!
December 21st, 2009 at 2:48 pm
Hi Andy! Since today is my anniversary, I am wishing for extra luck! The flower photo is so vibrant and beautiful too! I love reading your blogs!
December 21st, 2009 at 2:55 pm
My desires are few but expensive. I know what you mean. With age you seek quality.
Best wishes.
December 21st, 2009 at 2:56 pm
I hope you get that mimosa absolute! Your ideas for it sound enchanting, as always.
December 21st, 2009 at 2:59 pm
I think that orchid is an Miltonia Charisma
Merry Christmas and a peacefull 2010 with a lot of friends!!!
Greetings from the Netherlands
December 21st, 2009 at 3:04 pm
I wish for a little more joy for everyone.
December 21st, 2009 at 3:18 pm
I’m still trying to find out where to buy these scents in Dallas.
December 21st, 2009 at 3:19 pm
Nothing wrong with quality over quantity! This year, I only wish for time with loved ones and the peace to enjoy that time. So far it is halfway true!
December 21st, 2009 at 3:23 pm
My wish is to get a job very very soon! :-)
Have a happy holiday too, Andy!
December 21st, 2009 at 3:23 pm
I too love the scent of mimosa and and aldehydic mimosa fragrance sounds heavenly! I have always loved intensely aldehydic fragrances and all the talk here lately of new aldehydic florals has me very excited for Andy Tauer’s 2010! I certainly hope you do get that mimosa absolue. Your little Ms. Aldehyde is quite pretty, and her fragrance sounds enchanting. The range of orchid fragrances I’ve smelled is striking–not all of them have a perceptible scent to me but those that do can be quite unpredictable. Wishing you a peaceful, productive time over the next few days!
December 21st, 2009 at 3:32 pm
Happy holidays!
December 21st, 2009 at 3:32 pm
I don’t know about orchids, but one that smells like aldehydes sounds wonderful to me. I wish for a miracle white Christmas, but I’ve never seen one yet in the southeastern U.S. My children would lose their minds with snow!
Thanks.
December 21st, 2009 at 3:39 pm
Another one with few, but spendy desires. Mostly, though, I wish for a mimosa scent from you. One of my favorite notes, and I know you would put an interesting spin on it.
December 21st, 2009 at 3:39 pm
Mimosa, I’d love to smell your take on it. Have a wonderful Monday!
December 21st, 2009 at 4:03 pm
I am wishing for peace: for myself, my family, and for everyone, throughout the world.
December 21st, 2009 at 4:07 pm
Hoping your wish comes true for mimosa absolute!
December 21st, 2009 at 4:09 pm
I have an strongly scented orchid that only blooms for a short time (late spring) and it smells a lot like sunscreen.
December 21st, 2009 at 4:21 pm
What do I wish for…hmm, perfume of course! For myself as a little treat I am adding to my essential oil collection- benzoin, coriander and Himalayan cedar. I would also love hay and honey absolute, but they are very pricey so I will have to wait on those. Hope everyone gets what they wish for this year :)
December 21st, 2009 at 4:22 pm
Isn’t Ms. Aldehyde pretty! Many thanks for sharing her with us~ :]
December 21st, 2009 at 4:22 pm
Lovely picture, and a mimosa scent sounds great!
December 21st, 2009 at 4:23 pm
My husband feels that orchids are for old people, so no orchids in our house. Exactly at this moment I am in his parents house which is full of them, his father loves them and they are such a delicate thing, it always feels like living in a porcelan house. Wish you luck with that!
December 21st, 2009 at 4:32 pm
i love the scent of mimosa- can’t wait to see how you will play that flower into your fragrance!
December 21st, 2009 at 4:32 pm
Mimosa is so wonderful - especially when you can smell it fresh in the air! A mimosa fragrance can be very special - it will be very interesting to see what you do for that!
December 21st, 2009 at 4:34 pm
Orchid is one of my favourite fragrance notes!
Base on the American Orchid Society
the Orchid family has over 30,000 naturally occurring species and more than 110,000 registered hybrids!!
I’m not sure what’s the type of the orchid on the pic but it looks beautiful!
Stay warm people!
Love,
F.

December 21st, 2009 at 4:36 pm
Mimosa scent from you would be great! My mother arrives for the holidays today. Can’ wait to see her.
December 21st, 2009 at 4:47 pm
The picture of the orchid is just lovely. As for wishes for myself, it’s always perfume related so I do want some perfume for Christmas. One of your sets would be wonderful. Thank you.
December 21st, 2009 at 4:55 pm
Orchids are beautiful but I don’t have the patience to grow them. Happy Winter Solstice.
December 21st, 2009 at 4:59 pm
Please enter me into the draw for the sample set. Thank you.
December 21st, 2009 at 5:00 pm
I have many flowers in my garden but no orchids…yet!
December 21st, 2009 at 5:32 pm
Please enter me into the draw for the sample set. Thank you.
And an aldehydic mimosa does sound good - and I know it’d be “unisex enough” for a guy to wear. :)
December 21st, 2009 at 5:33 pm
Hi Andy,
ich wünsche dir eine schöne Zeit.
ciao
jj
December 21st, 2009 at 5:34 pm
I hear that it is hard to render mimosa acurately in fragrance, & also that the absolute, though wonderful, differs from the living plant.
I am so curious to sniff the absolute!
I imagine it to have a hay-like aspect (I have no reason to suspect this; don’t ask me why)!
Hay is one of my most beloved smells. I think it has to do with being a baby & lying on grass matting in the sun.
Fresh mimosa flowers have a unique, delicate & remarkable smell.
December 21st, 2009 at 5:41 pm
I’d love some Mariage Frères teas for Christmas. Or a pony. I ask for one every year, but everyone always thinks I’m joking. Happy Holidays!
December 21st, 2009 at 5:48 pm
Lovely orchid, very festive colour!
December 21st, 2009 at 5:49 pm
I usually have no luck with orchids or the more fragile plants… yours is beautiful!
December 21st, 2009 at 5:51 pm
I was recently sent a bouquet with orchids in, so pretty but they don’t last long!
December 21st, 2009 at 5:55 pm
There’s something so evocative of spring about the scent of mimosa - that honeyed almond effervescent note! I wish you the best of luck with that!
As for me, I wish for peace on Earth, goodwill towards my fellow humans and something truly stunning and ephemeral to wear!
December 21st, 2009 at 5:56 pm
Andy, my wish is that you wishes for materials come true, because then all of us benefit from your fabulous creations.
December 21st, 2009 at 5:57 pm
I’m wishing for a 2010 that’s more fulfilling and maybe a little easier for everyone I know. But kudos to everyone who had a fantastic 2009 … may it continue.
December 21st, 2009 at 6:01 pm
Best wishes Andy, to you and your aldehydic orchid. I know that I think of my own orchids as being a little bit like shy pets - it’s so exciting when they finally bloom.
December 21st, 2009 at 6:03 pm
Happy Holidays to you!!! The mimosa sounds lovely.
December 21st, 2009 at 6:05 pm
Happy Holidays, Andy!
My wishes for myself- to be aware of everything I want to do, and do them!!..:)
December 21st, 2009 at 6:06 pm
I’m one of those people who will likely be placing orders in January…
Here’s my wish that you get your mimosa absolute, Andy — and my best wishes to everyone for 2010.
December 21st, 2009 at 6:08 pm
Hi Andy, My Christmas gift wishes for myself have mostly been perfume sample sets from various perfumers. 2009 has been the first year I’ve ventured into scents from niche perfumers (which I must do online since I live in a smallish city with no great perfume shops). I love to discover original, memorable scents — particularly things I would not have expected to like!
December 21st, 2009 at 6:17 pm
Here’s hoping that everyone gets that something they’ve been wishing for this year!
December 21st, 2009 at 6:24 pm
The mimosa sounds lovely!
December 21st, 2009 at 6:25 pm
i like your perfumes
thanks
December 21st, 2009 at 6:26 pm
I LIKE YOUR PERFUMES VERY MUCH
December 21st, 2009 at 6:27 pm
i like your perfumes very much
December 21st, 2009 at 6:27 pm
Too bad the orchids I have do not throw any scent… And they usually never bloom after they’ve used up all the buds they come with… Yep, I’m not a god gardener, except for herbs I can eat!!!
December 21st, 2009 at 6:34 pm
Thanks for making this Monday a little brighter, Andy!
December 21st, 2009 at 6:34 pm
i can’t believe it’s christmas in only 4 days!
December 21st, 2009 at 6:40 pm
For everyone: peace, and enough to eat.
For me: a cashmere scarf.
December 21st, 2009 at 6:44 pm
Good morning Andy! I hope Santa leaves you your mimosa absolute!
December 21st, 2009 at 6:44 pm
I have never had good luck growing orchids (getting them to bloom year after year) but now I’m so curious to smell the aldehydic orchid you show here… My friend does grow them (very successfully!) and maybe I’ll be able to explore their scents while they’re in bloom.
December 21st, 2009 at 6:47 pm
I wish to have my friends and family around at Christmas, everyone happy and healthy!
December 21st, 2009 at 6:52 pm
I always hated cut flowers, because they were dead flowers once you cut them and lost their scent fast. My husband was the first person in my life to take that to heart. When I came home from a surfing trip to Kauai, he was waiting at LAX with a potted orchid in his hands. It was both the most romantic thing and the silliest thing I’ve ever seen.
We had that orchid for years.
December 21st, 2009 at 6:53 pm
Happy holiday!
December 21st, 2009 at 7:03 pm
WHEW!!! My senses are spinning from imagining all these beautiful flowers TOGETHER! A wish for Andy to dream up the most extravagant floral bouquet perfume EVER, based on all the flowers mentioned here!! To be part of the Memorables line, for sure!! :-) Songs for the day - `Flowers in the Rain` by Paul McCartney, for those of us too warm of clime for snow, `Blood Roses` by Tori Amos, for those who desire DRAMA, and `Desert Rose` by Sting, for all of us who desire one or both of Andy`s desert beauties under our Christmas tree!! :-)
December 21st, 2009 at 7:04 pm
This year all I want is to see my family happy.
December 21st, 2009 at 7:06 pm
None of my orchids have a fragrance! I want that chocolate scented orchid you get in Hawaii.
December 21st, 2009 at 7:21 pm
By the Way - Happy Winter Solstice!!! How many of us read, or better yet, tell fairytales and yore to pass the long, dark hours, as well as ward off evil by telling the RIGHT tales of good overcomes evil? The Christmas episode of Xena is titled `Winter Solstice`, and it`s a hoot!
December 21st, 2009 at 7:23 pm
I agree, Peace to All Things everywhere is the number one wish. For a selfish wish, some fantastical shoes and a job, and a sample set and.. well, I could go on. :-) I think Une Fleur de Cassie is the only mimosa scent I’ve tried and I love the top notes, but, cannot love the dry down on me. I would love to see what you do with it. I wish you many happy hours experimenting with your mimosa absolute.
December 21st, 2009 at 7:36 pm
My wishes include togetherness & good food, which is pretty much a sure thing. Every year I travel to FL and we make a brilliant array of Finnish Christmas dishes and then sit down with the family. It’s quite nice. Happy holidays to everyone commenting here :)
December 21st, 2009 at 7:42 pm
I’ve never smelled a natural aldehydic flower - wow!
Pick me!! :)
December 21st, 2009 at 7:52 pm
Andy, I do hope you get your mimosa absolute. I have been eking out a single ml of it for about a year in my itty bitty lab, and I cannot wait to see what you will do with it. What a glorious aroma.
As always, thank you for your beautiful site, your big heart, and your gorgeous creations.
December 21st, 2009 at 7:55 pm
LADDM and another Fiorentina shirt will do me.
December 21st, 2009 at 8:05 pm
I wish everyone a very happy Christmas, and wish (for myself) that Christmas Dinner for 9 in-laws goes well on Friday !
Love,
Kirsten
December 21st, 2009 at 8:09 pm
Thanks again Andy!

I love mimosa too, but have never yet smelled anything quite like the real flower. I would love to smell mimosa absolute.
You are so right about perfumistas ordering post-holiday what they didn’t get for Christmas!
December 21st, 2009 at 8:39 pm
My fragrant wish would be to have the chance to smell some of the great vintage scents that I have read about. Take care and best wishes to you.

I love mimosa! we had a mimosa tree in our backyard that had lovely puffy blooms every Spring. I nearly killed my mother when she had it cut down because some nefarious gardener convinced her the roots were growing too close to the foundation of our house.

Happy Holidays to all and thanks, Andy, for the wonderful fragrances. Looking forward to see what you do with the mimosa!

I wish someone would come clean my apartment for me! And of course for your sample set;-)
December 21st, 2009 at 10:10 pm
Merry Christmas, everyone! Hope you all get what you’re wishing for!
December 21st, 2009 at 10:31 pm
this aldehyde junkie is wishing for a 2010 (and beyond) filled with peace and contentment for all who care for that sort of thing - and hope that more care for that sort of thing each day.
On a personal note: I wish for continued good health for myself and my friends and loved ones as well as the continued successful trajectory for my business! We’ve worked hard, Bear and I, to make it happen.
And Happy Christmas and New Year to all of you!
xo

More Iris. A long lasting one.
December 21st, 2009 at 10:45 pm
For all the orchid lovers out there, most of the cattleya family and some of the phalaenopsis have lovely scents. And I would certainly be happy to have some lovely scents from you, Mr. Tauer! Your nose is divine!
Merry Christmas to all of us!

Sexy Ms aldehyde! Mimosa smells so good, I like the powdery sweet and green of the flowers. Cristallised flowers where one of my delight when I was a child.
December 21st, 2009 at 10:55 pm
Mimosa is a very optimistic flower.I wonder what particualr wishes a perfumer like zou might have as for other brands.

Happy winter solstice to everyone! It’s raining out here in Northern California, so it even feels like winter (our kind of winter) here, too.
December 21st, 2009 at 10:59 pm
Merry Christmas Andy!!

Four sleeps to go… :)
December 21st, 2009 at 11:03 pm
Happy Holidays, Andy!
I think you are correct in your reason as to why January has been an active month. If Santa doesn’t bring me my Une Rose Chyprée, I know I’ll be ordering.
Lots of Hugs,
Christine

The mimosa scent sounds lovely - I find the scent of honey very addictive.

Gute Nacht Andy,
Natacha

Wishing for a mimosa for men that smells like a fragrant dusty lazy summer in the South (US). And world peace…of course. :P

My Christmas wish list? Let’s see… money, a job, and a bottle of Incense Rose — and not necessarily in that order!
December 22nd, 2009 at 12:35 am
Happy Holidays everyone!
December 22nd, 2009 at 12:56 am
I’m sure anything you wish to do will be great, Andy. Merry Christmas!

Taking another stab at the drawing….
December 22nd, 2009 at 2:00 am
Lovely orchid, now I’m very curious about that scent…we have 120 orchids at last count, but none have what I would describe as aldehyde scents. I must investigate!
December 22nd, 2009 at 2:03 am
Hm. A mimosa absolute? I think you’ve finally listed something that I would NOT enjoy– it’s a shame, but mimosa is almost too buttery for my taste (take for example Mimosa Por Moi).
December 22nd, 2009 at 2:08 am
Beautiful photo. Mimosa sounds nice, I especially like the drink (made with champagne and orange juice)!
December 22nd, 2009 at 2:17 am
I love orchids - alas I can’t seem to get them to bloom again. (Anyone have advice on that?) Lovely photo Andy - and crossing my fingers (and toes) to win the sampler set.
December 22nd, 2009 at 3:21 am
I wish I could smell online. I want to smell those orchids-
=)
December 22nd, 2009 at 4:00 am
Happy Solstice Day. You could do wonderful things with a mimosa.
December 22nd, 2009 at 4:23 am
I’ve never smelled mimosa, but would love to someday!
December 22nd, 2009 at 4:42 am
With unabashed Christmas excitement, I await my teaser set from Andy!! Love your blog
December 22nd, 2009 at 5:09 am
I love all orchids and would love to sniff that one in your picture!
December 22nd, 2009 at 5:39 am
The orchid is a milonia hybrid. You might like to try a night scented orchid called Yellow Bird. It likes a bit more light, but the night perfume is fantastic. It blooms on every new growth! Also, if you get the chance, most purple corsage orchids have a very nice scent as long as they stay on the plant and are not cut for flowers. It’s then that they lose their scent.
Besides mimosa, I remember the smell of wisteria …..
December 22nd, 2009 at 5:49 am
Thanks so much! I’m always wishing for more perfumes–fingers crossed for the set!
December 22nd, 2009 at 6:22 am
just 3 more days, but keep on trying , thanks Andy for all the wonderful perfumes, and waiting for more new awesome creations for 2010.
December 22nd, 2009 at 6:26 am
Merry Xmas everyone!!
December 22nd, 2009 at 6:28 am
I’m still working on what I wish for next year. I will have to post back here when I figure that out!
December 22nd, 2009 at 6:54 am
We have an orchid that has a weak scent of chocolate and honey. I would love a perfume that captured its fragrance.
December 22nd, 2009 at 7:22 am
Hi Andy,
One of our native Florida Orchids; Epidendrum tampense, though not very showy has an intense honey fragrance. It’s an endangerd species, but would make a lovely addition to a perfume ! The Chocolate scented orchid that Pitu mentioned is Oncidium ‘ Sharry Baby’ smells of chocolate covered cherries is widely available in the orchd trade.
Wishing all a fragrantly Merry Christmas !
