rare species saved from extinction

July 13th, 2010

Here comes the obligatory reminder: Please, if you wish to enter the draw, leave a comment over there on the blog post of July 12. I will pick the happy winner(s) tomorrow, Wednesday, late in the day (US Time), meaning, early Thursday morning Swiss time.

And for those who already commented and wished me well and said hello and more: THANK YOU!

It feels really good and is a motivation to continue! I am sort of flushing and get red like a tomato (see picture to get an idea how red) when reading these lovely comments of yours.

And here we continue:  As you have seen… my IT gurus sure worked a lot and they continue to do so. There are a few its and bits not working yet, like the blog feed. But the feed should be up and running soon. In a sense, it was a smooth transition. Compared to other IT project it felt like cycling down hill.  Thus, it turned out all well. And what follows now: cleaning up the glasses and bottles after the party and move on. Moving on translates into: Me hiking tomorrow. Us (W.-factor and me) filling 30 ml flacons with Rose vermeille and Rose chyprée the day after tomorrow.

And finally: coming up with some crystal clear thoughts on the near future. The website is there, “HOMAGES” is set in place of Memorables (that never really worked and that was hard to pronounce, especially for me), but we need to continue working on a nice and decent transition from old to new. OLD = 15 ml flacon of rose chyprée, NEW=AUTUMN 2010= 30 ml flacon of rose chyprée and rose vermeille. And somewhere in between is the CARILLON POUR UN ANGE, that remains in PRELAUNCH mode until spring 2011.

But I think the Carillon is worth an extra post after hiking and clearing the mind and nose.

Picture: A PRO SPECIE RARA tomato, bought at a local supermarket (COOP) that supports Pro Specie Rara, a non-profit organisation, aiming at saving precious genetic information by cultivating agricultural important plants and animals… like this beautiful and tasty tomato.

    Hi Andy,

The blog feed seems to be back on track again, so thanks for sorting it.

I had noticed that Memorables had become Homages and I was wondering if you were going to write anything about that. I never had a problem with Memorables, but I think the new name works perfectly fine too, although it does have a significantly different meaning. Will it be on the new mini-flacon packaging?

Dear Andy and W.-factor – have good walk!

  3. Angelika says:

Dear Andy, I seem to be the only person who is sad about the changed name. Memorables was just perfect for me and I prefer the French names for your scents for several reasons (hence glad about Carillon pour un ange instead of Eve’s Tears…). Love the picture of the tomato – I bought plants from the “Arche Noah”, an Austrian initiative to save rare species and they are full of flowers, hope to have soon such beautiful fruits… Have a nice day in the mountains!

    dear Vladimir
thank you! I just decided where to go tomorrow. I think we will do this hike Realp-Andersteg

    Dear Angelika
fragrant greetings from tropical Zurich. I understand when it comes to Mémorables. For me it was fine, but somehow too … cliché in a sense.
Thus, I figured homages might fit better. and it sounds French, while it is English. Kind of perfectly in the middle ;-)

  6. Andy says:

    Dear Persolaise
Indeed, the Mémorables will slowly but sure disappear. The CARILLON POUR UN ANGE PRELAUNCH packaging does not say Mémorables. The rose chyprée will say so until it goes into the 30 ml flacon. But besides the classification on the web and by the distinction of the flacon 30 ml versus 50ml and a color distinction: Homages will not appear in print on a label or a flacon. (uff…what a bad sentence).

HI Andy, love the photo of that tomato–when I first saw it I thought it was a top-down photo of a candle! So red and the shape is terrific. Enjoy your hike and I am not losing faith in random.org even though it has not favored me once yet, so fingers (and toes) still crossed! :)

Jen – Had the identical thought on the tomato`s looks! :-) We only have ONE pair of hummingbirds this year (!!??!!) – how are the flocks at your home??? Andy, you need that hike to refresh body and spirit, yes? Like a mini-vacation. Please post some flower photos – they are the prettiest; I`ve been missing their little faces bobbing in the breeze! :-)

  9. Chris says:

The tomato is great. It looks so shiny and bright. It wants to be a scented candle I think. Hommage à une tomate?

  10. Tama says:

Oh yummy-looking tomato! I got some cherry tomatoes at the farmer’s market yesterday that are like eating candy – such sweet morsels.

I like Homages! Except then I wonder what the homage is an homage TO. But it does sound better.

Have fun on your hike! Here in my neighborhood by the beach it is gloom gloom gloom but at least it is getting less cold. Lots of birds are singing today. I stayed home from work – someone is working with me now and I am taking advantage and recharging my very depleted internal batteries!

Hi Andy, I love to go hiking and I often run through a forest here where I live, it’s where I go each day to feel my best and replenish my spirit, all the while kicking my own arse! (it’s hard goin up and down trails but I crave it.) I’m also saving my lil’ pennies to purchase URC and URV in Sept. I hope it’s not too astronomical in price though, seeing as that’s the time all my daughters go back to school and usually I don’t have any $ to play with for myself, with 4 girls it’s hard to go around. ;) But Mama wants things too you see?
    Have a great day!

I wish I could slice into that tomato right now! YUM!!! I love delicious heirloom tomatoes :-)

I LOVE the new Homages name instead of the Memorables line! Good thinking on that one. I’m so anxious to smell these lovely-sounding new scent-sations…! Especially that lily of the valley one – just sent you my contribution to the e-book contest. Crossing my fingers that I win! :)

    Andy,

I had no idea that COOP had this rare species program… the COOPs I shop at here in Geneva sure don’t have it, but maybe I have to check the larger stores (I go to small and medium ones; big ones tend to be outside Geneva, in Vaud).

Such a program is a dream of mine; I have long been a supporter of rare seeds and rare breeds. One summer, pre-children, I started 27 different varieties of rare tomato plants under grow lights in the basement (people without a gardening background may have mistaken it for a grow-op!)… needless to say, before long, I was handing out seedlings to anyone who walked past our house!

    Thanks for posting!

(p.s. I am wearing my Lonestar Memories sample today, as I did yesterday, and am yearning for a whole bottle… my husband’s birthday is coming in August, maybe I could pretend it is for him…)

  14. Andy says:

    Dear Monika
Indeed, our COOP here in Höngg (Not too big actually) has this specie rara stuff: tomatos, funny peperoni, cool apples. Great quality and sometimes an interesting alternative . like the blue potatoes: A must try!
